Zum Schneider

After a disappointing brunch at Prune, I moved on to meet DO Jr. at Zum Schneider, the inimitable concrete-treed Bavarian biergarden in Alphabet City.

After a half liter of Spaten Optimator, we noticed the brunch menu: among the German breakfast staples of coldcuts, jam, cheese, bread & butter was a new item: Strammer Max, an open faced sandwich with cheese, boiled ham, and fried eggs on bread. Though not a true eggs Benedict, it seemed novel enough to warrant a second brunch with our second round of beer.

As the before and after photos show, the Strammer Max went quite quickly. Ham, cheese, and eggs were tasty and well balanced, and the only improvement would have been just a touch of some mustard-based sauce to bring the dish together.
