Conveniently open until 3 am, Lucky Strike serves a long-time benchmark steak au poivre of Soho. The fries only get better as they soak up the pepper sauce. Wash it down with a Bass or Presidente.
Unfortunately, over time the preparation has become a little erratic. Some nights the steak can be near-perfect, other nights it can be off.
Other things to try include the penne in spicy tomato sauce (have the waiter ask the chef to add some shrimp), and the excellent lamb sandwich (unfortunately it’s only on the menu for a few months a year).
The eggs Benedict is to be avoided.
Addendum: Lucky Strike closed in 2020, and the above review does not communicate the restaurant’s importance to brunch.org and it’s faithful brunchers.
The steak au poivre category was only added to brunch.org because of late-night discussions at Lucky Strike, and if there was one NYC meal I could go back in time to, it would be a Lucky Strike steak au poivre at 2:30 am after a night out in Tribeca.
