The seasonal menu at Danal seems to dance around traditional eggs Benedict. In winter there is a poached egg on muffin with hollandaise and delicious sausages on the side; in Spring the menu describes "Poached eggs, smoked salmon, and muffin with hollandaise" but does not give it a name.

The eggs were slightly overdone, the Hollandaise was skimpy, but the salmon was just fine. There were 5 or 6 symbolic pieces of roasted potato with shaved garlic, and a fruit salad of apples, grapes, and watermelon.

The fun, quirky waitstaff seemed to match the cozy tin ceiling and the unique tables and chairs. Danal clearly stresses the romantic side of things, but few couples were in evidence.

The french toast was a delicious and a much-appreciated hangover helper (there’s nothing like french toast to soak up what ails you), and if the four beautiful oval slices had been a touch fluffier they might have been perfect.

To truly waste the day, walk across Thompkins Square Park to Zum Schneider (7th Street and Avenue C), a German beerhall with some great Munich beers on tap. For Cinco de Mayo they were having a Sprigfest, and the owner was having some difficulty trying to spit-roast a suckling pig on the sidewalk.
