Rarely has the decor of a restaurant clashed as much with the quality of food. From the ceilings drip cool Middle-Eastern-looking lantern-like decorations, the bar could easily be a second home, and the number of flies playing on the banquette betray the residue of many a fine evening.

The eggs Benedict was a complete disappointment, however. The yolk (or perhaps yoke in this case) was so overdone I briefly considered playing squash with it later in the day, and the sauce, I will not presume to call it Hollandaise, was obviously from a “mix” and was not present in sufficient quantity to relieve the parchness left from the yolks. The French fries were okay but overdone, and it could not be determined with certainty if the Canadian bacon was that or merely a slice of warm ham. The dressing on the salad was surprisingly pleasant and light, but alas, the brown edges of the tired lettuce leaves dashed the only remaining hope for the meal.

While the eggs Benedict were a great disappointment, the staff was friendly, the plates were cheery, and the bloody marys were first-class. Try drinks Sunday nights, but avoid the brunch.
