Post-9/11 New York City on a triple-2 day: Feb 2, 2002.

“Thanks for supporting Tribeca,” the room seemed to say, while the tablecloth handed out papercuts. Formerly the Odeon Bar — a pedigree that raised expectations the kitchen did not meet.

The hollandaise was goopy and sticky. The eggs were acceptable. The muffin was only fine, and other bread on the table was stale. Canadian bacon came too small for the job. The potatoes were too big and too white. Misproportioned from end to end.

Addendum: A decade later, this restaurant would go on to play an important role in my NYC life. With first one and then two kids in tow, Edward’s became our top choice for a family breakfast spot.
