Portrait Restaurant

I had been to The Portrait Restaurant a couple of times before, but had always been distracted by my various companions. This visit I had a buddy with me, so I could focus on the bloody Marys and the eggs Benedict. Here they serve eggs Benedict as an appetizer, but you only get one, and it comes with salmon. It’s actually extremely tasty with the egg cooked well and the English muffin large and fluffy, but it looks a little lonely all by itself on a large plate, and there isn’t quite enough hollandaise to go around.

I can’t remember what my main course was — all I remember is that next time I am going to order two appetizers. The bloody Marys are decent, and as I looked out over the London skyline toward Westminster, I noticed our flag fluttering in the breeze. It appears the colonialists have taught the mother country a thing or two about brunch.

On the way out of the gallery, we were met by the double-decker Corona party bus, commanded by a friend from business school, and serenaded by merry minstrels from Ireland, turned from a life of crime with the IRA to gainful employment by the opportunities the economic vigor of Tony Blair’s England has provided.
